Art and Design
Art and design are intricately interwoven in our experience.
Both are ultimately interpretations of what we see, hear and feel. They differ
in the sense that art can be taken for its own sake independent of an intended
purpose while design usually implies an attempt to fulfill an underlying need.
Metaphorically, art is like pure mathematics while design can be likened to
applied mathematics.
In this section are two essays on art and design as they
apply to water and specifically, water fountains and features. The first "on
water" deals philosophically with water, it's meaning and abstraction in
man-made fountains. The second "on design" deals with what we feel are useful
concepts to keep in mind when designing fountains and water features for indoor
and outdoor environments. |
